Can I alone make a difference?

I think more often than not we feel helpless and think that even if we tried to help, what good would it do if the need is so enormous. The truth is that perhaps we cannot feed all the hungry and bring peace to the entire world, but we can start with helping one person at a time. Every single person CAN make a difference. Here’s a story told by writer Marianne Larned:

Once there was a terrible storm that washed thousands of starfish ashore. A young girl, walking along the beach, picked up each starfish she came to and threw it back into the ocean.

After some time, a woman approached her and said, “Little girl, what are you doing? There are too many of these to save. You can’t make a difference.”

The little girl was momentarily disappointed, then reached down and tossed another starfish to the ocean and said, “Well, I made a difference to that one.”
